Proper skin care is not just about buying the body wash or facial soap with the prettiest label. Taking proper care of your skin starts with proper research to learn what is good for your skin and what is sabotaging your efforts. Read on to learn more about how to care for your skin.

Make your own mask to help with breakouts. After you wash your face use a raw egg-white and spread it all over your face. The egg-white will dry and tighten on your face. It will clean out your pores and help close them up. You can also use clay-dirt as a mask.

After working out, you need to bathe so you get the sweat off of your skin. Just dabbing the face with your towel will not suffice in terms of eliminating bacteria from the skin, which could clog pores and bring on irritation. Use warm water when you take your shower.

Avoid skin care products containing isopropyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, methanol, ethyl alcohol, or ethanol. These are all names for alcohol, which is not a good thing to use on your skin. Alcohol is very drying and can cause age spots. Additionally, it compromises the integrity of the skin by stripping away natural oils. This can open the door to infection and disease.

Sometimes colorless bumps, called keratosis pilaris, can form on the back of your arms. To help prevent these from forming, use a lotion that contains lactic acid twice a day. Every time you take a shower, make sure that you scrub the affected area with a loofa for at least thirty seconds. These steps help unclog the pores and smooth the bumps.

You should exfoliate at least twice a week. Look for exfoliating lotion and scrub your skin gently for a few minutes. Exfoliating longer to clean up inside your pores and get a smoother skin.

A wonderful and inexpensive facial mask for your skin can be made with warmed honey and a small amount of lemon juice. Stir in enough juice so that the honey is still thick enough to spread. Spread on your face (avoiding the eye area). Wash off gently after it dries. Honey has fantastic skin-softening qualities and the lemon will brighten your skin.

To ensure the healthiest skin all over your body, limit the amount of time you spend in the shower or bath. Hot water is a drying agent, removing healing oils from your skin. Instead, bathe in warm water, use a moisturizing soap, and get out of the water as soon as you are clean.

Potassium in bananas can help erase dark circles around your eyes and moisturize your skin. Mash half of a banana and rub it into your skin in different patches. Wait about 5 minutes and rinse it off gently. This will leave your skin feeling soft and your dark circles muted.

Your skin is exposed to the elements, so as the weather changes so do your skin care needs. During winter, invest in a thicker moisturizer to provide more protection from the wind and cold. During the summer, look for lighter weight items without oils to keep your skin soft and smooth.

Do not shower or soak in a tub with hot water if you have dry skin. Hot water can take moisture away from skin because of the high temperature. It can make your dry skin problem, even worse. Instead, shower with lukewarm water, which is more gentle on dry skin.

If you are having flare-ups, try switching to natural products for your face. Many products contain chemicals that can trigger issues in acne-prone skin. Harsh chemical being used on your skin will cause your body to produce extra oils to help compensate which is a major cause of acne problems.

It is important to be patient when starting a new skin care regimen. Products do not work overnight; it can often take several days, even weeks, before you start to see the benefits of a new product. By allowing a time frame (for instance, one month) for a product to work, you will better be able to determine if it is the right product for you and your skin.

Body Moisturizer

You can use honey to help keep your skin soft and supple. You can apply honey to your face as a mask or put it in your bath water for a whole body moisturizer. If you are using it as a mask simply put a small amount on your face, let it dry for 15 minutes, and then wash it off. In order to use it in the bath, simply put 1/4 to 1/2 cup in the water as your running it, so it dissolves. 

It’s not too late to change your ways when it comes to your skin. Our bodies are constantly shedding dead skin cells and creating new ones so even if you’ve been horrible to your skin for years it’s not too late. Incorporate the advice you’ve read here and you’ll be on your way to beautiful healthy skin.
